The shadows welcomed the tall figure into their realm. Dressed in all black, he blended in rather well with the side of the brick building. People passed by as he stood there, alone, waiting for something to happen. He hadn't anything in mind, but he was bound determined to cause some kind of mischief. More people passed, smiling, laughing, have a jolly good time. Kadence was, needless to say, disgusted by their careless appearance. They lived in a world where horsemen reigned; people were forced into slavery, there was a war being waged, yet they didn't seem to care in the least.
For some reason it bothered him to know that this was happening. It was then that he knew exactly what he was going to do today. Kaden stepped out into the sun and took in the sunshine with some apprehension. He didn't particularly enjoy being freckled, and that was all that ball of heat did for him. Flipping his hair unintentionally, Kade could feel the eyes of the other people upon him. Though he was good looking, he didn't really care for the attention. He liked to be quiet, sneaky. Being seen wasn't his path of choice.
Kadence Bartholomew made his way to the slave barracks. Before he snuck past the guards, he made it was point to appear to be browsing the selection of the dirty, battered people. It sickened him to see this, but id he was hired by a person who liked slavery he would be for it, in their eyes. As he passed the head guard, who at the time was talking to a customer, Kade snagged the keys from the man's back pocket with ease. The guard didn't even seem to notice. Even though he could not manage to help the ones in the current cages, he could go out back and set the others free.... if everything went according to plan.

Was that kid honestly that stupid...? Despite the apparent ease of the pick pocketing, the kid wasn't as sneaky at he thought he was. And this is what he got for stepping out of the misfit pirate town he called home; Alistair found some suicidal idiot who thought he was smoother than he really was. And instead of taking the easy way out and letting him get caught, he just had to try to catch up with the kid and talk him out of it.
Honestly, it was easier than he expected. The kid walked slow, probably trying to appear nonchalant after robbing the guard. Like, hey. Did those keys magically fall into my hand? Oops, I didn't notice. Anyways, all Alistair had to do was wait for the nearest dark alley, and then reach up with a clawed hand and grab the kid's neck.
And shoving.
He followed the kid into the alley, forcing him far enough back where it was hard to see them from the road. "Are you out of your mind?" he hissed, trying to keep his voice down despite how much he wanted to yell at the kid's idiot move. So much for a quiet day watching.

It was obvious that someone was following Kadence, but he didn't give them another thought. There was something about the way the person moved that told him it would not be wise to turn around and smart mouth him. It was when he had came to s stop that the weirdo chose to address him. He wasn't very nice about it, either. 'Twas a shame.
"Mind?" Kadence chuckled at the thought. A mind. Was this man serious? He was no one's boss. He was going to have to pry the keys out of Kade's still hand if he wanted to stop him from doing this. "Whoever told you I was using my mind was wrong."
He watched as the people continued to buzz with activity, still oblivious to his presence. They were so unaware it was preposterous; the attitudes they upheld to suspicious behaviors allowed anyone to think they could get away with anything.
Let's face the facts... Kadence Bartholomew was more suspicious than a nun squatting in a cucumber field.
Yet people still paid him no mind. A glance here, a curious look there; nothing seemed to set off their mental alarms. Even the guards took him as just another person out to ruin another being's already miserable life. That was why he was here today, keys in hand, ready to go. People didn't deserve to be treated like that.

Oh dear whatever gods there were. This kid wasn't insane; this kid was insane and suicidal. Instead of sighing, giving up, or smashing his head against the wall, Alistair continued giving him a rather exasperated look. At least he wasn't being violent to the kid.
"Do you honestly think you're going to help anyone by being stupid?" he hissed, almost tempted to hit the kid to see if the meaning would sink in any faster. Or to get whatever stupid plan was in his head out of it.
If he let those people go, this town would quickly become the point of a massacre. He'd be killed first, and if he let the slaves to them next. And because the Horsemen were a hive mind, it seemed, officials would have permission to imprison anyone they thought was helping. Blood would run in the streets for days.
All because of some little punk who was able to steal a pair of keys and decided to act upon it.

"Seems to me like you've been thinking this over, mister." Kadence turned around and looked at the man curiously. He didn't seem to be too old, but he apparently had his fair share of experiences. By the way the guy was standing, it seemed that he could pounce at any given time. Maybe it would be best to forget about the task at hand for the moment?
If the guy did manage to deter Kade, what was he supposed to do with the keys? Give them back to the guard? He'd be thrown in jail for sure. Clearly that was not an option. The man who was now conversing with him would surely have some brilliant idea to help him out. Seemed to like butting his nose into other people's business, after all. Kadence would have commented on that, but he decided against it; something told him that it would be a waste of his breath.
He was going to do something with this opportunity he had created, whether captain big nose liked it or not. So it may not originally be what he planned, but it would be something. This would be a great day in his history, no matter what happened. He was determined and willful and would get something accomplished. It would do no good to forget about everything altogether.

A snort left him before he could help himself, but it didn't matter because it would add a certain effect to his next words that he rather liked. "It seems you haven't put any thought to it at all." Unable to stop himself he began to pace, his movements jerky and stressed.
"Do you know what happens when you do this and get killed? The town is thrown into a blood bath and you're named a criminal. Not a martyr, as you might want to believe." When the last word left his lips he looked back at the boy, clenching his fist and not noticing when he began shaking. Or when it began to turn white. "The Horsemen love these kinds of things. They see rebels in the shadows of their own bloody palace, because they're scared and paranoid. This'll just let them get what they want."
The kid was being ridiculous. Sure, the keys they wouldn't be able to return out of fear they would be caught, but a pair of keys could easily be lost or given to a pirate that could use them for something. Wait, why was Alistair thinking they. It wasn't they, it was the boy, who apparently wanted to die, and himself, and he was very interested in living.
"Damn it. Why do I find all the stupid ones?" he muttered, more to himself than anything, unclenching his hand and running it down his face.

"I usually think things through three seconds before I do something. Unless it's something I've been thinking about doing for years. I've only accomplished one thing like that in my lifetime, but that leaves me with a perfect record. Sure, I'm reckless, but I'm a hormonal teenager boy..." Kadence was beginning to think that being a teenager was actually a legitimate excuse for his bad behaviors; all of the adults seemed to blame it on that fact. The boy watched the man curiously. This really seemed to bother him.
Kadence was just looking for an adventure. This was the closest thing he could find that wasn't completely dangerous. "What you believe isn't true, you know. You may think I just want the attention. If I had it my way, no one would know who did it. I would have the satisfaction of a job well done." Doing it for the thrill was simply senseless, but he didn't care; it made no sense to be doing this, as the man was slowly pointing out, but that would only matter if his grim forecast came true.
Kaden eyed the man once more, and his brow furrowed. "I'm afraid that I'm not stupid. There is a large difference between being reckless and being stupid. If I was stupid, we wouldn't be having this conversation." He wasn't stupid. Like he had pointed out, if he were stupid, he would have been killed very easily and quickly by many of the people he had made into victims. Reckless in this instance and in many others, but not stupid. Intelligent and not putting what he could do to good use. [/size]
